Intraocular contact lens

If your glasses prescription is very high it may not be possible to fully correct your vision with Laser Eye Surgery. If you also have early cataracts it is/may be possible to correct your vision with early cataract surgery and a new artificial lens.

However, a more suitable approach for you may be to insert a small contact lens into the eye in front of your existing lens.

This will correct the prescription of the eye without the need for glasses or contact lenses, and will also maintain the natural lens’ ability to focus (accommodate). This means that you can change the focus of the eye from near to distance without glasses and so become glasses-independent.

We do not currently offer this treatment at the Bournemouth eye clinic but would be happy to recommend colleagues in London who have extensive experience with this surgical proceedure.
