Toric lenses

Toric lenses correct astigmatism to improve distance vision.  Astigmatism is a common deformity of the front of the eye that requires glasses or contact lenses to allow an image to be brought into focus properly.  Many people have such a small amount of astigmatism that they do not notice it.  However, some people have a larger amount of astigmatism which distorts vision to such an extent that glasses are needed for both distance and reading.

With a Toric lens there is a strong chance you will not need glasses for distance vision, though you may still need standard reading glasses if both eyes are set in focus for distance.

Toric lenses can be combined with a technique called “Blended vision” which will allow you to also have some reading vision and make it more likely you can be spectacle independent more of the time.

If you would like to discuss how Toric lenses can reduce your need for glasses, make an appointment with our surgeon who would be happy to discuss your options with you.
